Deer Lake Regional Airport Announces Major Terminal Building Expansion

The Deer Lake Regional Airport Authority (DLRAA) Board of Directors is announcing a significant
capital investment to advance the expansion of the Airport Terminal Building and roadway.
Construction is anticipated to begin in early 2027.

“DLRAA’s vision is to be a leading regional airport connecting Western Newfoundland and Labrador to
the world
. This Terminal Expansion Project represents the largest capital investment in the Airport
Authority’s history and will enhance our terminal facilities to elevate the guest experience, support
future growth, and strengthen our service capability,” said Stelman Flynn, Chair of the Board of
Directors.

The expansion will increase the size and functionality of key terminal areas, including the passenger
hold room, check-in counters, pre-board screening, concessions and baggage make-up area.

“This is a transformative project for our team and the entire airport community. Expanding our
terminal infrastructure ensures we can meet future passenger demand, improve operational
efficiency, and offer an enhanced experience for travellers and tenants,” said Tammy Priddle,
President and CEO.

In 2025, DLRAA engaged AVIA NG Airport Consultants to complete a Functional Plan and Concept
Design for the terminal extension. The plan recommends expanding the terminal by over 2000m²
and incorporating system upgrades to improve energy efficiency and environmental performance.
AVIA NG, supported by McMillan Architecture and CBCL, will now proceed with Detailed Design,
Procurement, and Construction Support. The project is expected to be tender-ready in early 2027,
with construction starting in Spring 2027.

“The growth in our infrastructure reflects our confidence in the region’s air service demand and the
Airport Authority’s commitment to supporting economic development, connecting families and
communities, and welcoming visitors to Western Newfoundland and Labrador,” added Priddle.

“The planned terminal expansion at the Deer Lake Regional Airport is a significant investment in the
future of our community and the entire region,” said Deer Lake Mayor Dean Ball. “A modern,
expanded terminal will improve the traveller experience, support tourism and business growth, and
strengthen Deer Lake’s role as a key transportation hub for Western Newfoundland and Labrador.”
